Free Water Intake Calculator — Know Your Daily Water Needs

Staying properly hydrated is essential for your health. Water supports digestion, nutrient absorption, temperature regulation, joint lubrication, and organ function. OptiDrop's Water Intake Calculator provides a personalized daily water recommendation based on your body weight, physical activity level, and the climate you live in.

How the Calculator Works

The base calculation uses the standard recommendation of 30-35 ml of water per kg of body weight per day. This is then adjusted upward for higher activity levels (to account for sweat loss) and for hot climates (where you lose more water through perspiration). Cold climates may slightly reduce the baseline. The result is shown in litres, glasses (250 ml each), and ounces for convenience.

Hydration Tracker

After calculating your recommended intake, use the hydration tracker to log each glass of water you drink throughout the day. Simply click on a glass icon to mark it as consumed. Your progress is saved to your browser's local storage, so you can return later and continue tracking. Reset the tracker at the start of each new day.

Frequently Asked Questions

The general recommendation is to drink about 30-35 ml of water per kg of body weight per day. For a 70 kg person, that is approximately 2.1 to 2.5 litres (about 8-10 glasses). However, your actual needs depend on activity level, climate, health conditions, and other factors. This calculator provides a personalized recommendation based on your specific inputs.
Yes, activity level significantly affects water needs. When you exercise or are physically active, you lose more water through sweat and increased breathing. Sedentary individuals need less water, while those who exercise regularly or have physically demanding jobs need considerably more. This calculator adjusts the recommendation based on your activity level.
2 litres of water is approximately 8 glasses, assuming a standard glass size of 250 ml (8 oz). This is where the common advice of drinking 8 glasses a day comes from. However, your individual needs may be higher or lower depending on your weight, activity level, and climate. This calculator shows your recommendation in both litres and glasses.
To stay hydrated: carry a water bottle and sip throughout the day, drink water before and after exercise, eat water-rich foods like fruits and vegetables, set reminders if you often forget to drink, monitor your urine color (pale yellow indicates good hydration), and increase intake during hot weather or illness. Use the hydration tracker on this page to monitor your daily intake.
