How Morse Code Works

Morse code represents each character as a unique combination of short signals called "dots" (.) and longer signals called "dashes" (-). Letters within a word are separated by a single space, and words are separated by a forward slash (/) or multiple spaces. For example, the letter A is ".-" and the letter B is "-..."

Audio Playback

Click the "Play Morse Audio" button to hear your Morse code as audio beeps using the Web Audio API. Dots produce short beeps and dashes produce longer beeps, with appropriate pauses between characters and words. This is perfect for learning Morse code by ear or verifying your encoding.

History of Morse Code

Invented in the 1830s by Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail, Morse code revolutionized long-distance communication through the electric telegraph. It remained the standard for maritime distress signals until 1999 and is still used today by amateur radio operators, aviation, and military communications worldwide.

Morse code is a method of encoding text characters as standardized sequences of dots (.) and dashes (-).
