Frequently Asked Questions

To calculate a percent off, multiply the original price by the discount percentage and divide by 100. For example, 20% off Rs. 500 = (500 x 20) / 100 = Rs. 100 discount. The sale price is the original price minus the discount: Rs. 500 - Rs. 100 = Rs. 400. You can also calculate it directly: Sale Price = Original Price x (1 - Discount% / 100).
To find the original price from a discounted price, divide the sale price by (1 - discount%/100). For example, if you paid Rs. 400 after a 20% discount, the original price was 400 / (1 - 0.20) = 400 / 0.80 = Rs. 500. This reverse calculation is useful when stores show the discounted price but not the original.
20 percent off means the price is reduced by 20%. You pay 80% of the original price. For example, 20% off Rs. 1,000 means you save Rs. 200 and pay Rs. 800. 20% off Rs. 2,500 means you save Rs. 500 and pay Rs. 2,000. This is one of the most common discount percentages offered during sales and promotions.
Shops typically calculate discounts as a percentage of the original price (called the MRP or Maximum Retail Price in some countries). The discount is subtracted from the original price to get the sale price. Some shops offer flat discounts (e.g., Rs. 200 off) while others offer percentage discounts (e.g., 25% off). During sales, multiple discounts may be applied sequentially.
